Hans van der Ster

Hans van der Ster, born in the late 1940’s in a maritime family, started his maritime career in1965 at L. Smit & Co. Internationale Sleepdienst Maatschappij as apprentice engineer when he was 17 years old.  His passion for tugs was born.

Sailing on the “MT Schelde” he learned the fine trades of the job as ‘apprentice’ crew member. After the “MT Schelde” he moved on to the “MT Clyde“, with the famous Captain A. Poot at the helm. After this period as apprentice he went back to school, in order to obtain his ranks.

The less beloved time at school gave him the confirmation of his passion for tugs. After a successful career as Chief Engineer at sea Hans went on to shore. On shore Hans joint the Technical Department of Smit.
