The new building Pusher tugs “MATACHIN” & “CAZALLA” of 5.260 Bhp and a GT of 489 built by SIMA shipyard of Chimbote, Peru, for the Panama Canal Authorities (ACP) were contracted to Redwise for the delivery voyage to Balboa.

The tugs were the 22nd and 23rd Redwise has delivered to Panama and to be used by the ACP. Both tugs have been specifically designed to support dredging works undertaken by the ACP at the Canal and use the same main engines as the latest 13 Z-tech tugs acquired by the ACP.

The tugs have been built as “day boats” for a restricted area of operation without sleeping berths and departed one after another following trials and fitting of temporary accommodation features to allow the crew to operate continuously. Both tugs were in addition equipped with Redwise’s portable Satcom C units, full medical kits etc., additional life rafts and safety equipment to meet the requirements of the Classification Society as well as the registry, to ensure that the transit could be done in a safe and professional manner.

Both tugs performed very well and made a flawless transit with a  crew of 6 each
