Bulker “Full City” grounded at Langesund

Owner moves quickly to contain damage from grounded bulker  

THE owners of the 26,800 dwt bulk carrier Full City, which ran aground at Langesund off the southern coast of Norway in heavy weather on July 31, say that everything possible is being done to contain and limit any potential environmental damage in the wake of the casualty.

[SinglePic not found]Investigations are continuing into the cause of the grounding, but the priority presently is to address the environmental consequences.  In this regard, the owners are co-operating fully with the local authorities and have engaged the services of industry professionals to deal quickly with the situation. 

[SinglePic not found]The ship was in ballast but has on board approximately 1,200 tons of bunker fuel, some of which has escaped into the sea as a result of the grounding. Immediately following the incident, a Lloyd’s Open Form of salvage contract was agreed with leading salvage contractor Smit International, which has mobilised a specialist team of salvage equipment and experts to deal with the situation. Leading pollution specialists, ITOPF, are in attendance and providing assistance and guidance. 

The Full City is a 26,800 dwt bulk carrier built in 1995 in Hakodate Japan. It is owned by Roc Maritime Inc of Panama.
