Around noon today, the Full City was pulled off the ground and will be towed to Eikstrand later today. The vessel hit the rocks off Langesund on July 31 and caused a serious oil spill. A total of 217 tons of oil contaminated sand, stone and seaweed, 242 tons of oil emulsion (oil mixed with water) have been retrieved from the water and another 820 tons of oil emulsion from the stranded vessel have been salvaged.
Norwegian authorities and Smit Salvage assess the risk of a further oil spill during the operation as minimal and taking the vessel off the rocks to port for preparation for further transport is considered the safest option.
