On 24.03.2010 at 23:52, Syrian flagged vessel named Hafez exposed to a sea peril due to engine failure in front of Istinye, Istanbul Strait while she was passing through Istanbul Strait from North to South.
In order to provide the safety of navigation, life, property and protect marine environment, our Kurtarma 3 tug boat and Kıyı Emniyeti 5, Kıyı Emniyeti 10 SAR boats have been immediately sent to the place of incident by Istanbul VTS. Upon the vessel removed the failure before arriving of Kurtarma 3 tug boat to the place of incident, she was brought to Büyükdere by the escort of Kurtarma 3.
However, on 25.03.2010 at 00:20, the vessel declared that she had a rudder failure while she was proceeding to Büyükdere by her own means. Upon receiving this notice, our Kurtarma 1 tug boat was also sent to the place of incident. The engine of the vessel was stopped; she was uncontrolled and drifting to Beykoz. As a result of Salvage-Assistance Service rendered by Kurtarma 3 tug boat, the vessel was secured and anchored to Büyükdere at 01:55.
No pollution and loss of life reported.
