Westerbaen Trading BV arranged Tug Transport

The Project Cargo department of Westerbaen Trading B.V. of Rotterdam arranged the transport of two 28×12 meter, 90 tons bollardpull rotor-tugs for the German shipping company Unterweser Reederei (Urag) of Bremen.   The tugs were loaded in Singapore in September at the ASL shipyard where the tugs were built.

On the 27th of October, the MV “Cena Faith” arrived in Rotterdam with two RT80-28 rotor-tugs “Dorum” and “Midlum”.  The next morning the lashings were removed and the tugs were prepared to be discharged by the 1500 tons Floating crane Matador 3.  This went very smooth and both tugs were discharged within 4 hours.  These two rotor-tugs were number five and six that were carried on a cradle as rotortugs from Bugsier and Kotug were transported similarly on prior occasions.  Both tugs will be towed to Bremerhaven where they will enter service soon.  These tugs can be counted amongst the strongest harbour tugs in Germany where the rotor-tug design is well liked amongst captains due to its easy handling and versatility.

During the voyage the MV “Cena Faith” encountered some rough weather in the Mediterranean Sea where she was confronted with wind speeds up to force 9 with wave heights up to almost 10 meters.   The vessel and cargo held well and after inspection in Rotterdam, neither tug had moved even one millimeter.   Although the cradle was designed to easily withstand such forces, it was not tested in practice. This proves that the ingeniously designed modular cradle which is also re-usable, is a very safe way of transporting tugs.  This cradle can be fully adjusted and can be reused for other vessels such as ASD tugs or even yachts.
